Snatching Joy: Black Feminist Approaches to Digital Humanities
2-3pm Wednesday, March 20th, Virtual Event

DH@SDSU is excited to announce that Catherine Knight Steele will present her talk “Snatching Joy: Black Feminist Approaches to Digital Humanities” at 2pm on Wednesday, March 20th. Steele is the author of “Digital Black Feminism” and the director of the Black Communication and Technology lab at the University of Maryland.

The digital activities of Black women online point us toward snatching joy as an act of resistance, expression of pleasure, and a speculative act of world-building. In this talk, Steele walks through the praxis of Digital Black Feminism online, and the implications for those who wish to incorporate Black feminist practices into their online lives, scholarship, teaching, and digital humanities work.

The Digital Ethnic Studies Speaker Series is funded by the College of Arts and Letters Interdisciplinary Research Cluster program. Co-sponsored by the Department of Africana Studies and the Master of Arts in Liberal Arts and Sciences (MALAS).

4.11.24: Environmental Humanities scholar and creative writer Gretchen Henderson (UT-Austin) will present “Listening to Water: Blue Humanities & Life in the Tar Seeps” from 12-1:30pm in the Finch Conference Room (AL-660). Please visit: https://www.gretchenhenderson.com/ for more on Gretchen’s work
